Aside from the weight loss tips for obese kids I’ve mentioned few weeks ago, I’ve stumbled upon a new technology that your kids may agree more on doing for the sake of weight management - Exergaming.
XRkade, a high-tech gym in Arizona, is said to be one of the top health movements pushed nationwide to encourage physical fitness amongst teens and tweens.
It provides facilities for kids to have fun while doing some physical activities.

It’s been just weeks since I found out about Italians getting bribed to lose weight. And just today, more scientific studies and programs are being conducted to see how money can affect the drive of people to lose weight.
One is a study on providing financial incentives for employees to lose weight:
“Lots of companies are experimenting with rewarding people for weight loss, and this study provides evidence that paying people to lose weight works,” says Eric Finkelstein, a health economist with RTI International, a non-profit research organization in Research Triangle Park, N.C.

There’s Xenical, Acomplia, Goodliness, Fenphen, Alli, ObEcure and all the other drugs that promise to combat obesity either through suppressing appetite, slowing down the absorption of fats, or boosting the metabolism of a person. But why isn’t there any magic bullet that really hits this “problem” head on?
An eye-opening article about the failure of weight loss pills in addressing the real deal about weight loss revealed the reason why no anti-obesity drug will ever work:

A scary looking robot is being developed by the MIT Media Lab to aid people who would like to lose weight. It’s called the Weight Maintenance Social Robot. Eerie for me..

According to the report, the robot will serve in two ways a.) to “mirror” the person’s behavior allowing him or her to keep track of the improvements or lack of it and b.) to provide social support.
If your mom or your husband can’t get you into losing those pounds, I don’t think any bicentennial man can. What do you think?

I’ve always thought that Italians are the people who are least to get obese because of their habit of eating teeny weeny portions of food. I’ve always wondered how they can resist just munching on those small portions of pasta and other sumptuous Italian cuisine. Until…
Chubby residents of the picturesque Alpine town of Varallo Sesia, Italy, have been offered a cash incentive to cut their waistlines.

No, it’s no longer just preparing all the adoption papers and the baby’s room if you’d like to be awarded as the most deserving adoptive parent. For a starter, undergoing weight loss surgery may improve your chances of being better adoptive parents, for this certain couple at least…
She could be born any day now, and her adoptive parents are confident but nervous that they are ready for her arrival.
But Shawn and Valerie DiGianfelice have done more than just decorate a room and buy diapers to prepare for the birth of their daughter.
The Grundy County High School teachers both recently underwent weight-loss surgery. Val was starting to have health problems due to her weight, and they both wanted to have more energy and longer lives.
“It is just going to give us a better quality of life,” Val said. “It is going to give us more energy.
“Eating healthy is going to get us to where we want to be,” she added, “and it is going to be a good environment for the baby.”
Full report here.
Now who would say that you haven’t thought well of your child’s future if you have managed to even consider going under the knife to live longer?

Were you also lured by Ab Force’s claims that it can cause one to lose weight, inches, or fat; that it cause one’s abdominal muscles to become well-defined; that it’s an effective alternative to regular exercise?
Fret no more since the Federal Trade Commission has already asked the federal district court to force the Ab Force ab stimulation belt marketers to issue refund to its customers.

Weight issues can get as bad as killing oneself just because of the piled debts from a weight loss program? Check out this bad news bit:
The woman (who attempted suicide), surnamed Yiu, 20, is said to be the ideal weight but insisted she was too fat. In April, she joined a HK$16,000 ($2,051) slimming program and spent another HK$28,600 ($3,666) on related beauty and health products. With no regular job, Yiu borrowed the money from a finance company. via ChinaDaily
I don’t think the woman should have joined a weigh loss program, she needs a different program, don’t you think?

People who are trying hard to lose weight consider bread, especially whitebread, as one of their enemy foods. This is because bread is known to contain lots of carbohydrate that makes losing weight harder.
Actually, carbohydrate per se, is not the culprit but simple carbohydrates. If you’d like to lose weight, aim for complex carbohydrates. But there’s also something interesting about food rich in protein making one lose weight more than food rich in carbohydrates.
Working with researchers from University of WA, a Fremantle bakery called Bodi’s Bakehouse made a bread that’s dubbed as Slimmer’s Choice. This weight loss bread is rich in protein but not in carbohydrate, making people who eat it feel full longer compared with ordinary breads.

Because of chest infection and stomach perforation, a weight-loss surgery patient is suing a Singapore hospital, accusing that those conditions were caused by the laparoscopic gastric banding procedure performed by the said hospital.
Lisa Beth Larsson, 43, a US citizen who weighed 120 kilograms, alleges negligence on the part of Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and claims that the surgeon failed to do his job with reasonable care and skill.
She is seeking damages for the pain and physical consequences suffered, in addition to the 136,000 Singapore dollars (90,066 US dollars) she spent on the surgery in 2004, The Straits Times said.
The hospital and the surgeon, through their lawyers, dispute Larsson’s claims and are contesting the suit.
The trial is set for January to allow an expert witness to testify.
The procedure to treat morbid obesity is known as laparoscopic gastric banding. Ross Tay, another patient who weighed 160 kilograms, died last year in Singapore of post-surgical complications.
