Do you ever wonder what all the hype is about loosing weight? Do you know how to get started on a healthier lifestyle? Do you have a hard time keeping track of the calories you intake vs. what you burn? What about fat grams and carbohydrates? Did you know that losing 5%-7% of your total body weight can lower your risk for type 2 diabetes?

If you have already been diagnosed with diabetes it is important that you keep or get your weight down to manage your disease.

There are free weight loss tools online. Calorie-Count.com has food logs, nutritional information and activities logs. They also offer restaurant meals and fast food meals. They also offer some unique tools:

There is a program that walks you through the website so that you understand all of the features it offers. It is called the “walkthrough”. You can also enter your own recipes on the recipe analyzer, which figures out the nutritional facts for you. There you will also find a menu planner which helps with total calories, carbs ad fat grams for the day. It will tell you whether you are outside your limits or not. It will also help you determine your BMI. There is an interactive Menu Planner from the NHLBI (National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute).

Another great website is FitDay.com which is large database with different kinds of foods, including name brands. This site shows a progress chart which keeps track of goals, exercise and calories. There is a journal available here as well, so that you can write about how you are feeling.

The next website is My-Calorie-Counter.com, allows you to enter your meals and counts your calories, carbs, fat, sodium, etc. for each meal. There is a BMI calculator, activity list and weight loss ticker.

These sites will keep track of your choices and calories, which will help you to stay motivated to reach your goal.
