Fat March: ABC’s Reality Weight Loss Show

Fat March, a new reality show on losing weight from ABC will be aired on August, 2007. Out of thousands of applicants‚ it has chosen 12 contestants who are all in need of some help for their weighty issues - some from living a sedentary life while others have gained weight because of eating - the two most usual reasons for extreme weight gain.

“Fat March” is based on the British reality show “Too Fat To Walk.”

The twist this time is that the participants aren’t in competition with each other. Indeed, if they all stay together by the end of the walk, they can share in a $1.2 million pot. On the other hand, every time someone drops out - or is voted out for being too much of a drag on the others - the pot is reduced by $10,000. - CTNow

The contestants are guided by two personal trainers and one of them is Steve Pfeister, a Vero beach trainer.

Update: Fat March more details..

With The Biggest Loser out, Fat March is in! ABC introduced a reality show that has a dozen people talking about losing weight and literally walking the walk. According to the show’s official website, “All You Need is a Pair of Sneakers!”

What is Fat March all about? To understand the significance of Fat March, you only need to understand the special problem of obesity, not only in the United States, but in the world. All over the globe, people are getting fatter and heavier, and perhaps due to many things. Fast food, with all its grease, may be to blame, along with cable TV, video games, and a total lack of self-control in food or an urge to exercise.

Hence the preponderance of reality exercise shows, and hence, Fat March. In this show, twelve obese people will literally walk through an epic journey. They start at the Boston Marathon, and end in Washington, D.C. – all by walking from point A to point B with their fitness trainers, Lorrie Henry and Steve Pfiester. This season’s journey spans over five hundred miles and takes the contestants through nine states, all with the aim of shedding the contestants’ pounds, getting fit, and, in summary, making their lives better.

The contestants are also competed for a prize of over a million dollars. The contest itself stresses on team work: the greater the number of people who finish the march, the greater the amount of money that each person in the march will win. In other words, everyone in the dozen marches has to finish the game, or the rest of the team will not be happy at all.

Walking from Boston to the nation’s capital is not the only feature of this show. In each part of the march, the contestants are given “luxury reward challenges,” where either a single contestant or a team compete to win fun and rich rewards. These rewards include deluxe accommodations for one night, treatments at a local spa, or low-calorie meals prepared by a gourmet, private chef. Aside from these little rewards, there are larger prizes to compete for, including vacations to Las Vegas and Hawaii.

The luxury reward challenges are special, and are according to the geographic area that the contestants find themselves in. There is also an elimination period, where contestants get to send home someone whom they feel is making them lose the Fat March. As mentioned, elimination comes with a price: ten thousand dollars are taken out of the potential prize money that each contestant may win for every contestant that is eliminated.

The show itself is based on Too Big to Walk, a British series with the same premise. This season’s contestants include Chantal, 35yo, who stands at 5′2″, 250 lbs; Jami Lyn, 30yo, 5′9″, 226 lbs; Kimberly, 39yo, 5′5″, 225 lbs; Loralie, 27yo, 5′7″, 233 lbs; Shea, 27yo, 5′7″, 238 lbs; and Wendy, 40yo, 5′6″, 234 lbs.

On the men’s team, there’s Anthony, age 25, 6′3″, at 410 lbs; Matt, 36yo, 6′3″, 386 lbs; Michael, 41yo, 6′2 1/2″, 330 lbs; Sam, 22yo, 5′9″, 371 lbs; Shane, 34yo, 6′, 500 lbs; and Will, 26yo, 6′2″, 470 lbs.
