Chubby residents of the picturesque Alpine town of Varallo Sesia, Italy, have been offered a cash incentive to cut their waistlines.

Mayor Gianluca Buonanno announced the scheme as he began his own diet, after his son had called him ‘big belly’.

According to the Guardian, a six kilo loss for men (five kilos for women) in two months earns a €50 prize, with €200 awarded for keeping trim for the next five months.

Mayor Buonanno is trying to lose six kilos himself, but won’t be claiming a reward. Source

If they’ve been long bribed to maintain their weight, I won’t wonder why they can eat just that little…

Now I gotta find someone who will bribe me to forget about the quarter-pounder I’m going to order from McDonald’s later? :-D
