Are you ready for the lifestyle changes that come with weight loss?

Not only do you need to take the weight off, but are you truly ready for the long-term life changing experience of keeping it off? In order to be successful, you have to improve you eating habits, which will change to more healthy foods as well as exercising more. We all know these things are a necessity in order for this to work, but are you prepared to overhaul your diet to more fruits, veges and whole grains? You also need to figure out a way to work in at least a 30 minute workout nearly every day. If you want to keep the weight off, it is necessary to exercise. You need to find a motivation and everyone is different. Yours may be that you focus on feeling better or looking better in your clothes. Find what motivates you and focus on it.

If you think you are ready for these new and improved things in your life, consider what else may cause you to fail. If you are having job stress, financial problems or marital problems, now may not be the time to try to succeed in the weight loss program.

Through a low calorie diet and physical activity, you should aim to loose 1 to 2 pounds per week. You will need to burn 500 to 1000 calories more than you consume every day. Remember not to get discouraged if your weight loss is slow.

For many people, emotions, like anger, stress, grief, etc., and food are connected. If you have had an eating disorder, weight loss can be very tricky. Identify what your emotional challenge is and be prepared for the long road ahead. Also, you can talk to your doctor about which weight loss option is best for you.

There will be moments where you are tempted and disheartned. Be sure that you have family or friends that you can rely on for emotional support. Be prepared to do regular weigh ins and log of your diet. This is where a weight loss group may come in handy.

Heading into this, you need to have a positive attitude about losing weight. If you dread it, you will be less likely to succeed. Think of how much better you will feel when you reach your goal.

Try to address the obstacles as soon as possible and then re-evaluate your readiness for weight loss so that you can quickly get started on a healthier lifestyle. Don’t let the chaos of life become a permanent excuse, however. There will never be an absolutely perfect time.
