The Zone Diet Program Puts You into Healthy Weight Zone

The Zone Diet Program

People on the Zone Diet are simply striking a delicate balance amongst all the foods that they eat. In a nutshell, the Zone Diet advocates that eating a highly balanced diet, with just the right amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and fats will allow you to lose weight faster. This is because your blood sugar levels are kept within a tightly controlled zone, thus keeping your body healthy while you lose weight. In other weight loss programs, the body can be deprived of essential nutrients that may cause fluctuations in the levels of important molecules.

The Zone Weight Loss Program works by a strictly controlled diet. If you are on the Zone Diet, you will have to divide your food plate into three sections, all of them of the same size. In one section, place low-fat protein foods. In the last two thirds of the plate, add fresh fruits and vegetables. You can then sprinkle fat over the meal. This plan is often called a 40-30-30 strategy, in that forty percent of your meal gives you protein, thirty percent provides you with carbohydrates, and you get only about thirty percent total fat in the entire meal.

The Zone diet also demands that you eat within an hour of waking up, keep to three complete meals along with two snacks each day, lower your consumption of processed grains such as bread and pasta, and drink at least eight glasses of water each day. Many celebrities have since taken to the Zone Diet, as it can allow for weight loss without damaging organ systems. In Seattle, Washington, Zone diet foots delivered straight to your doorstep are also gaining popularity amongst busy professionals who want to lose weight and stay healthy.

The Zone Diet, authored by Dr. Barry Sears, is actually a “lifelong hormonal control strategy.” Because you maintain your insulin levels, you can keep your weight at a desirable minimum. You can also protect yourself from damaging diseases such as diabetes.

While I haven’t tried the Zone diet per se I have dieted in the past trying to keep intake at a 40-40-20 level and I can tell you that even 20% fat leaves a bit of wiggle room. At 30% fat you will be able to eat most of the foods you would normally eat. Yes, the carbohydrate requirement will limit you a bit, but if you are following the Zone Diet recommendations this shouldn’t be an issue. I feel that this is a very good diet plan and strategy for long term weight loss and maintenance.
