When weight loss is a national concern, expect resources to pop up offering services and information to help us ease our way out of the top spot as the world’s fattest nation. As proof, several websites have appeared, offering visitors a way to monitor their health and learn about the right diets and exercise programs for real and lasting weight loss.
One of ‘em that’s become well-establishe is Traineo.
Traineo is a weight loss site that offers free membership to those who wish to join. It’s basically a community of people who wish to lose weight and learn more about fitness, so expect a lot of information and weight loss services online. The resources are made available through some of the leading experts in health and fitness.
When you join as a member, you get access to the online resources available through the site. The site lets you create your profile and personalize your page with photos and messages. Then, you’ll need to indicate your goals in terms of target weight and period. Once that’s done, you can browse the available resources and services online.
The links to different services are easily identifiable. The My Workout link, for example, leads you to a page where you can track your workouts and monitor how many calories you’ve lost depending on the type of your activity and duration. The qualifying factors, such as the list of activities (which are pre-set, by the way), are not really customizable but you’ll need a separate application to help you count your calories. As of now, the site cannot calculate the number of calories in your food based on how much and what you’ve eaten.
Traineo also lets you work with your own motivators, although in order for your weight loss program to really work, you’ll need to include accurate (and honest) information about yourself. If you’re a little shy, you might not be able to maximize what your motivators can offer. Regardless, you’ll love the fact that you get support and motivation from real people and not just some automated cheering squad.
Here are other reviews of Traineo.

If you need a really good site to track your calories you should try FitDay at http://www.fitday.com
It’s free and the database of foods is very comprehensive. If you need to you can even add your own foods to the database. I’ve been using it for over a year now off and on and have nothing but good things to say about it.
FitDay does also give ou the ability to track your activity and caloric output, but I can’t really comment on that feature since I don’t use it.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for telling me about FitDay. Will try it out today.
Thanks for dropping by!
Nice blog. Lots of good content. I have just added your feed. FYI: I found it via zenhabits.net –> via stopswimming.com to you.
I like Traineo, It has a lot of aesthetics and pleasing looking design. First impressions of the site are great. After using it a bit, I have two issues with traineo that prevented me from using it: 1) It was slow (download and response time). 2) I just did not like the way it managed the food portion of a persons diet.
Now, I may be biased a little, because I developed Simpleweight.com. It does not have the design wow of traineo, but what it lacks in design, I think it makes up for in simple application.
Take a look at our Try It section to give us a test run. We’d love to hear what you think.
It’s an interesting angle documenting the celebrity weight loss. I’ll be interested to read more.
[…] Traineo, Gimme 2.0 works through motivation and makes you feel responsible for what you do (and eat) to […]
Traineo tries perhaps a little too hard to be cool and there really isn’t enough interaction going on. I use a more popular site http://www.fatsecret.com which is simple and yet motivating.
I say whatever works for ya…
FatSecret looks cooler. Gotta check that out.
Thanks, Benjy!
